“LATO’S CHRISTMAS KNIVES”

  1521689_10201928059421926_1967823576_n

Hand crafting Christmas gifts is fun, and personal pieces of myself. They are not stress free. If you hate how stressful

Christmas shopping is, never hand craft them. If you’re going to start planning, start now, and yes, I know it is March.

Just trust  me on this.

I have created Christmas gifts for the past three years. My first was the first knife that I have ever made. It is a railroad

spike knife that I hand forged with a BBQ pit, hairdryer, and piece of railroad track, which I made for my brother-in-law.

A year ago I drew my sister in law’s name. She is a photographer, so I created my first picture frame easel made without

welding or rivets, just wrapped with copper wire.  Plan on seeing  copper used with my work a lot because her easel came  out

awesome.  I wish I had pictures of the knife and easel, but I don’t. You will have to wait for future works on this blog, Etsy,

and craft fairs.

Crazy me, as the two years before, decided to make this year’s Christmas gift an item that I have never crafted before.

I thought that I was going to be smart this year and make my mistakes and study knives, not the gift. I also thought

that I was going to use a huge leaf spring an antler bowie-knife.

12

After taking forever trying to cut off a piece using the edge of my anvil, I knew that it would take too much time and

propane. Christmas may come on the same day every year, but this year, it was coming way too fast.

I had two other knives planned as study knives. A cheese knife with a tiny piece of antler, and an exact copy of the latter

gift knife. You already know the other huge bowie-knife could not happen, however now because I was not using the leaf

springs, they had to be transformed into the gift.

copper

I forged the coil spring into a blade using my propane forge and a real anvil, faster than that first spike knife in a

BBQ pit. Then I ran out of propane. I hardened it with a BBQ pit faster than forging.( Just heat it until a magnet will

not stick to it, and quench it in oil.) Everything was perfect. I had forged copper and made a guard for it, and decided

to fit it on the tang before tempering the blade. I quickly found out that the steel had hardened perfectly with a very

fine grain.  I KNEW BECAUSE I HAD BROKE THE KNIFE!!!

DSCN4236DSCN4235

I SNAPPED THE BLADE, THEN I SNAPPED! Inside I ran, freaking out thinking of  all the work and time that

had went into it, and how t was the Saturday before Christmas. I was ranting to my wife about the recent nightmare

telling her and myself, that my brother doesn’t know what he is getting. I can buy a gift card and forge a beer opener

to go with it.

After spending some time talking with my broken blade, and looking through my knife books, I remembered grinding

broken drill bits in machinists school. I was looking at photos of stock removed made knife tang. I decided to grind the

broken blade back to life.

The finished blade turned out much finer and fit tighter then the forged tang. I was looking at knives on Facebook

when I saw an antler knife so polished, it looked wet. After a few comments, I found out how they polished theirs’. I will

use that technique for as long as I use antlers.  I will at some point use antlers with candle holders and lamps.

It’s time to give the knife back to my brother. I don’t have time to make my first ever knife sheath. I did not have the

leather, even if I was awesome at it. I keep my future antlers, exotic wood pieces, and I bought some knife blanks, and

keep them by my bathroom sink for inspiration. I noticed that one had a sheath that would work. It was not perfect, but

it worked well. Had I not broke the blade, I could have never used it.

DSCN4234

Remember the leaf spring that I did not have time for? That will be transformed into a huge meat cleaver. I can’t know

whom the next Christmas creation will be for, and I hope I really do get to have study work first. But I promise this year

will be fun to read, and your next favorite treasure may be coming to Etsy, Kick Starter, or craft fairs very soon.

“Impossible To Fail.”

If you knew that is was impossible to fail, where would you be and

what would you be doing? My answer will be shared with you for the rest of my life.

I love so many artist, blacksmiths, and cuisines from around the world.

I only know them on social media and cookbooks.

If I knew that I could not fail, I would travel, bring you treasures, and

teach you to cook the cuisine on Facebook and YouTube.

my future plane

If I knew that I could not fail, I would blacksmith in Disneyworld

selling Disney inspired wrought iron lamps, tables, wine racks, wall

decor, and candle holders. I would also oil paint in Disneyworld, then

add your portrait to the Disney landscape painting.

If I could  never fail, I would get a violin to see how fast I could draw a crowd in Disneyworld.

If I knew that I could not fail, I would send family’s on vacations all

around the world that have never and could never travel on their own.

I would fund artist and new businesses on Kick Starter. I would fund

others on Gofundme.com to help with tragic life events and dream

honeymoon.

If I knew that I could not fail, I would set up my shop with the best

tools in the world. I would rent a 18,000 square foot warehouse that I

love that is for rent, which would have  a 5000 square foot showroom

that you could come to, filled not just with my things, but with artist,

and antiques, and crazy unknown surprises. I would have charity

auctions and wine and cheese art shows.

   Mixed+-+Wine+and+Cheese

I feel that of all  the things I would do If I could not fail, will

happen between Lato A.C.D. and resellers and Stephen’s International

Cuisine, but if I could not fail, it would all start this year.

What would you do if you could not fail? I would love for you to tell me

on Facebook.

” Three Days In The Disney Wilderness.”

If this goes wrong, we could be arrested! My father in law is a Mississippi redneck and I am taking him into Disney’s Fort Wilderness.  I pray that he doesn’t see a rabbit, or it may be my next Italian braised rabbit like the one below. It’s hard enough explaining why he has to throw back the large bass he caught in Disney lakes. If we see Nemo, he wont be stuck in an aquarium, he will be right where he belongs, on a dinner plate.

2013-05-17 07.31.202013-05-17 09.20.02

Think about the forth day on vacation you have just shared all four Disney parks in the blazing hot sun of  Orlando, Florida with kids and a father in law that would rather be fishing. What can you do? You’re in Disneyworld. Take him fishing and after watching your kids catch their first BIG fish, go swimming, or ride horses. Take wagon rides with the family all around Fort Wilderness or a remote carriage ride with your love.

disney carrage

fortwildbigpool

Does it really take three days to recover from the parks before going back for one last grand finale?  Can you become to close, or spend to much time with your children? Oh! My BIG question. How much shopping can a girl and her mom do in three days? Please tell me that Downtown Disney’s shopping sucks, because if it doesn’t, this could hurt my ass! Or at least my wallet! How do you do Downtown Disney? Do you start your day in a café? What are your favorite shops? Show me Downtown treasures that you still have on our Facebook page.

DowntownDisney-0122600-downtowndisneypleasureisland

I can’t keep everyone happy all of the time, not even Disneyworld. With your help what we can do is create awesome moments for every person on our vacations, on this Disney vacation, your Disney vacations and many more to come. As an artist and a treasure reseller, Disney places and any vacation inspires new creations and educates me on what is out there. Your vacations when shared influences my work  and is appreciated. Getting to know each other through social media and in person is how your next special treasures are created. Thanks for sharing your experiences because there will be many awesome times with our families and OH SHIT! moments that we will laugh about for years to come.

Please think back to your past Disney vacations with your family. Put yourself in your favorite Disney resort or anywhere outside of Magic Kingdom, Epcot, Hollywood Studios, or the Animal Kingdom, yet still in Disneyworld. Where are you? Please tell me where you are on our Facebook page. All of my Disney memories are in the four parks or Fort Wilderness. I need you to help change that, this vacation.

cenderella castle night blue

As I wrote in “Stephen and Sabrina’s Bella Notte”, we have three days without Disney Park passes. Three days in the wild’s of Disneyworld. Sabrina and I will love our Bella Notte’s. Pawpaw and Mawmaw need theirs too. With raising two of their grandchildren, and pawpaw’s brother, they are not alone very often. The kids will not be in Disneyworld. The only problem is if  Stephen Michael and Rosalie hear a special kind of Disney Magic being made, how do I explain that to them?

FortWildernessCabin1cabin-living-room

How would you feel vacationing in Disneyworld like you lived there? Shopping, fishing, boating, and just chilling at the cabin? Taking your time going out to eat with no firm schedule. With the easy laid back Fort Wilderness days coming after being out in the four parks for three days from dusk til after midnight. To me, it will feel like a Disney weekend. Talking and connecting with Sabrina, Stephen Michael, Rosalie, and Sabrina’s parents, while dreaming about our last days spent in the Magic Kingdom.

I have brought you into my love life seeking your expert dating advice in “Stephen and Sabrina’s Bella Notte”. Now I’m asking you to share your stories and pictures. Showing me how to enjoy the rest of Disneyworld outside of the parks.

Thanks for expert advice

“Stephen and Sabrina’s Disney Bella Notte”.

cenderella castle night blue

This past December was our 10th anniversary. We did not do anything for it, because we planned on going to Italy this coming September for the Bi Annual Wrought Iron Exhibition in Tuscany for me, and shopping in Florence  for Sabrina.

Now that Disney World and the start-up of Lato A.C. D. and Resellers is going to take up so much of our time and money, Italy will be postponed until the next Italian Blacksmith Event in 2015.

Sabrina and I are dreaming about Disney dates together and even a double date with her parents while Disney sitters entertain Stephen Michael and Rosalie.

Now that this Disney dream is coming true for our family as a whole, help me create our late 10th anniversary dates memories forever told.

lady and tramp kissing

This is our first Disney World experience as adults. Sabrina’s 30th and 32nd birthdays were enjoyed on Royal Street in New Orleans and on our Honeymoon was a sample of all of New Orleans from our two B&B’s.

One in the French Quarter, and the other in the Garden District. From the graveyards to a riverboat cruise. All planned by me!

One similarity between New Orleans and Disneyworld is the amount of guidebooks, YouTube videos, blogs and google street views available. 10 years of marriage doesn’t hurt either.  🙂

I now have what is known as a clue when it comes to planning for Sabrina’s pleasure and then marrying them with mine. One of Sabrina’s friends is a Disneyworld travel agent, and another works in Fort Wilderness.

I have all the answers and know exactly what Sabrina and I would love to experience on our Disney date nights. I got that.

So what do I need you for? Because if you are a woman, or any person who has been on a date night in Disneyworld, then you have a perspective and knowledge of the little romantic details that I can’t have.

epcotfireworks

Imagine that you are on a boat on Disney lakes going to watch Illuminations Epcot Fireworks show from the water.  What conversations are you having with your love? What little gifts or PDA’s would truly put the icing on the cake?

I need you to share your Disney dates. I need you to tell me how to make the magic happen in Magic Kingdom, enjoying each other as adults…Disney style.

italy epcotfrance epcot

I read international cookbooks like they are novels, and daydream on YouTube and the Travel Channel. International Cuisine is my culinary passion. Look at my Pinterest group of the same name.

Epcot can be the next big thing before missing my Italian second honeymoon. I would love to spend the seven days in Epcot dining in a different country for every meal, chatting up the people from the many countries in Epcot, and shopping so that I can at least look well-traveled without ever having left the United States.

Please help me prevent my dreams from becoming everyone else’s nightmares, with so many international restaurants, international shopping and enough to see and learn to daydream in Epcot forever.

It might help if some of your could give me your favorite Epcot restaurants, dishes and shops. Being in international settings is about more than just the stuff.

How did if feel to be there? What is the ambiance like? Are the people as unique as the “things?”

fortwilderness cabindisney carrage

My in-laws live in the woods of Mississippi. I went camping all over the United States in scouts.

As a parent, I know that my children need a place to play and run around. That place is Fort Wilderness.

Next Friday’s post will give you my thoughts and ask for your expert advice on the other four people going to Disneyworld and making Fort Wilderness home.

This is my and Sabrina’s post, not theirs. Put yourself getting back to Fort Wilderness cabins after three days in the blazing hot Florida summer.

The kids are having fun, but the new car smell has faded away. You and your family are looking forward to the three-days in Disney wilderness, shopping in Downtown Disney, and dining at other resorts.

Should Sabrina and I slip of to Paradise Island? Hire Disney to entertain Stephen Michael and Rosalie while we have a double date with Sabrina’s parents? Or go to the campfire with Chip N Dale on the night before three days outside of Disney Parks?

cenderilla castle day

Our first day in Disneyworld and our last day in Disneyworld will be in the Magic Kingdom. Realizing we have arrived by seeing Cinderella’s Castle 🙂 Then seven days later saying our last goodbyes.  😦

Before that last day, on our three days outside Disney parks, Sabrina and I will once again have to many options to choose from.

Do we swim with the Dolphins? Would Blizzard Beach be cool? I would love the Pirates and Pals fireworks voyage on the Breathless II. Should I fly around the lakes in Hobie cats or take Sabrina canoeing?

I would love to have a candle lit massage with Sabrina at the Grand Floridian Spa. What would you love? What have you truly enjoyed with your love?

Like our Facebook page and dream Disney dreams with me in the comments.

“THE WHINE AND CHESSE OF LATO A.C.D.”

Mixed+-+Wine+and+Cheese

Wine and Cheese Charity Art Auctions with artists we have met on Royal Street, arts

and craft fairs, and vacations is what Sabrina and I dream about. Today and throughout the

construction of Lato A.C.D., we will give 10% of our net profits to artist, small business and

people in need through crowd funding sites like kick-starter, and gofundme.

At this point 10% donated per month does not much help, however, I imagine us with a

fifteen square foot warehouse bringing in a million a year. That’s almost $10,000 a month

pulling people out of dead-end jobs and employing the unemployed, while bringing you their

unique creations.

It hurts me that Lato A.C.D. is not a high volume storage unit buyer with a  10,0000 square

foot warehouse now, because we would give it to the Boston bombing victims on

gofundme.com

usa_boston_bombing_mcx09_35250655

The first dreams with a new business is always your future life. Doing the things you

love to do while getting paid for it. Once you realize that everything is going to be ok, that

your family is going to be living their dreams, you start to look back on your life at all the

times when you had friends and family in crisis with no resources to help. At least not in

comparison to your heart’s desire.

In mine and Sabrina’s first year together, we lost my dad, her uncle, and a sixteen month

old little friend who died in a house fire. Those challenges were key directions for us in the

dream to get married and is now one of the primary reasons to choose storage auctions and

hand crafting items as a profession.

Toys will go to “Toys for Tots”, coats will go to “Pat’s coats for kids”, and while no one can

replace loved ones or even family pictures and heirlooms, we will have the resources to help

with household essentials. We will have business social networks ( yes that’s you!) to help

with almost anything.

If medical bills are of a concern, our hand forged wrought iron decor, hand sewn dresses,

and oil paintings, ( when auctioned off at a benefit), will be just what the doctor ordered, or

charged.(same difference). 🙂

pats coats for kidstoys for tots

When our church has charity auctions and when high schools have charity auctions, we

will paint oil paintings, forge wrought iron, and design and craft dresses and jewelry. Many

of our donations will be one of  a kind items. It will not be often because we only crowd fund

the laymen of new mediums and first time collections.

However, some church and school auctions will début never before  seen creations. The

buyer of that creation will be the true owner of the very first solo of that treasure. Not the

funders of the following kick-starter project.  The Kick-starter funders will get the best price t

hat we will ever sell it for.

Florence Church

After Sabrina and I save the world, after we see our parents enjoying their grandkids in

their dream retirements, it will be our turn to party. We will stop whining and truly get to

start wining. Instead of spending our cheese on Boston Marathon victims, we will spend it on

cheese in France and Italy.

For now are backs are against the wall. Our heads are in the clouds, and our hearts are in

Boston. Help us get ourselves together. Go to www.gofundme.com and give to the person or

group of your choice, now please.

P.S.

If you are reading this after the year 2013, go to gofundme or kickstarter or buy your special

treasure from us remembering that 10% of our profits are going to crowdfunding projects..

Thanks for reading!

“FIVE THINGS TO LOVE AND HATE ABOUT LATO A.C.D. AND RESELLERS.”

ren. fest dress

My  quest and  Sabrina’s  is  to  become

oil  painters,  blacksmiths,  dress

designers,  and  treasure  hunters  that

are  friends  with   you  who  are  truly

connected  while  creating  your

special  treasures.

Knowing  you  is  going  to  affect  the

size  of  our  business  and  make  truly

having  a  resale  company  take  a lot

longer,  because  we  are  creating

works  with  our  customers  in  mind.

civil war horse back shooting guns

Imagine  that  we  had  a  conversation

at  a  Civil  War  reenactment  at  Port

Hudson  while  watching  a  certain

scene  during  the  battle.  I  would

draw  and  paint  oil  paintings  of  that

scene.

images

The  first  thing  you  will  hate  about

Lato A.C.D.  is  that  you  can’t  have

one  of  a  kind  items  that  you  love  in

our  gallery’s  that  have  already  sold,

like  the  oil  painting  above.

Someone  may  see  your  one  of  a

kind  painting,  but  they  can  never

have  one.  Even  if  I  decide  to  paint

others  they  will  not  be  exactly  the

same.

If  I  make  prints,  they  will  be  prints,

not  the  original  painting.

The  second  thing  you  will  hate  is

waiting  for  new  collections  to  be

offered  once  current  collections  sell

out.

Sabrina  and  I  will  be  working  on

many  projects  throughout  the  year,

while  at  the  same  time  buying  and

selling  storage  auction,  estate  sales,

and  flea  market  treasures.

In   order  to  bring  you  our  best

work,  we  must  be  focused  on  the

project  of  the  day  and  not   revisiting

past  projects

Between  dress  collections, or

collections  of  knives,  your  comments

and  reviews  are  more  than  just

appreciated,  they aid  us  in  future

creations.

The  third  thing  that  you  will  hate  is

Lato A.C.D  prices  after  kick  starter

projects.  Our  kick  starter  projects

are  used  to  develop  new  skills  and

help  us  to  explore  arts,  crafts,  and

study  in  places  that  we  could  never

attempt  without  your  help.

These  projects  will  develop   us  as

your  artists  faster  than  just  using

other  treasure  profits,  and   create

works  for  charity  auctions.

The  fourth  thing  you  will  hate  is

missing  events  with  exclusive  items.

  Civil  War  reenactments, Renaissance

Festivals,   Art  Shows,  and  even  Fire

Sales  will  have  items  not  available

on  our  website,  E-bay,  or  Etsy.

They  will  be  offered  to  you  again,

however  because  they  are  only  at

these  events  you  will  have  to  wait.

The  last  thing  that  you  will  hate

about  Lato A.C.D.  is  that  we

will  never  have  a  store.  We  will

have  a  warehouse  with  a  very  small

gallery  and  pick  up  area  for  internet

sales.

The  internet  sales  warehouse

business  decision  allows  us  to  focus

on  our  works  of   art  and  finding

your  special  treasures  with  much

less  cost  and  time  wasted  running  a

large  store.

The  first  thing  you  will  love  about

Lato A.C.D.  and  Resellers, is  our  kick

starter  projects.

Imagine being  in  a  gallery  on  Royal

Street  in  New  Orleans,  five  years

after  funding  the  projects  that  made

our  wrought  iron  decor  and  oil

paintings   possible.

How  smart  will  you  look  talking  to

the  owner  or  customers  admiring

our  work,  after  following  our

Facebook  page,  or  reading  our  blog

post.  We  will  have  about  four

projects  a  year.

After  the  first  one,  you  become  a

part  of  and   will  be  one  of  the  very

first  people  to  see  new  collections,

and  influence  the  treasures  that  you

will  love  for  the  rest  of  your  life.

The  second  thing  you  will  love  is

showing  off  one  of  a  kind  items.

Most  of  our  oil  paintings, dresses,

blacksmith  merchandise,  and  jewelry

will  be  in  very  small  collections  with

one  of  a  kind  versions  offered  on  E-

bay,  kick  starter,  and  at  events.

Many  of  your  house  guest  will  be

seeing  our  works  for  the  very  first

time  when  they  visit.  Unfortunately

for  them,  you  own  the  only  one  ever

made.

portable civil war forge

purple civil war dress

The  third  thing  that  you  will love

about  Lato A.C.D.  and  Resellers,  is

that  you  will  see  and  talk  to  us  at

events  like  art  shows,  bridal  shows,

and  Civil  War  reenactments,  on

social  media,  and  even E-mail.

We  will  answer  your  questions  as

best  we  can  and  attempt  to  get  to

know  each  other.  Meeting  us  in

person  at  events  with  our  wrought

iron  and  dresses  on  display  or  in

the  process  of  being  created.

You  will  be  able  to  judge  us  and

our  creations  for  yourself.  I  love

learning  the  favorites  of  my  new

friends,  and  seeing  them  react  for

the  very  first  time  they  experience

their  treasured  creations.

The  more  we  see  each  other  and

get  to  know  each  other,  the  more

influence  you  will  have  on  your

treasures.  At  times,  you  will  truly  co

-create  them  with  us.

007013

The  fourth  thing  that  you  will  love

about  Lato A.C.D.  and  Resellers,  is

our  warehouse.  It  will  not  be  a  true

store.

You  will  not  be  allowed  to  visit

most  of  it,  and  it  will  be  available

to  you  three  days  a  week.

So,  why  did  I  say  you  were  going

to  love  the  Lato A.C.D.  and  Resellers

warehouse?  Simply  because  of  these

three  things:

(1.)  You  will  love  the  prices  that  we

can  have  without  the  cost  of  a  full

store,  as  well  as  the  fact  that  you

are  buying  directly  from  us,  the

artist.

(2.) We  will  have  HUGE  tent  sales

and  arts  and  crafts  fairs  outside.

(3.) You  will  love  seeing  the  very

best  we  have  to  offer  in  our  gallery.

The  last  thing  that  you  will  love

about  Lato A.C.D.  and  Resellers  is,

having  true  artist  and  treasure

hunters  as  friends.

blue and black civil war dress

Imagine  Sabrina  having  made

dresses   for  you   for  a  few  years.

She  knows  your  size.  You  and

Sabrina  talk  about  the  latest  trends

and  styles  that  you  love,  and

Sabrina  knows   what  you  hate  about

certain  dresses.

Sabrina  just  might  see  the  perfect

dress  for  you  in  Paris,  France,  send

you  a   picture,  and   ask  if  you  would

like  her  to  pick  it  up  for  you.

 burgandy ren. fest dress

When  you  get  married,  or  have  to

make  your  next  favorite  dress.  Just

don’t   forget  to buy  one  of   my

wrought  iron  bridal   hangers  to

show  it  off   on.  😀

Thank  you  for  being  a  part  of  our

dream.  Your  interest  in  Lato A.C.D.

and  Resellers  is  appreciated  and  you

truly  are  co-creators  through  your

comments,  Facebook  posts,  and

purchases.

As  we  grow,  become  full-time,

and  perfect  our  skills,  there  will  be

larger  collections  of  our  blacksmith

items,  dresses,  jewelry,  and  on

Amazon  with  the  amount  of  resale

merchandise,  lessening  the  things

you  will  hate  about  us,  Lato A.C.D.

and  Resellers.

There  will  always  be  one  of  a  kind

treasures  once  collections   sell  out,

are  gone,  and  our  kick  starter

projects  are  by  far  the  most

economical  way  to  own  or  work.

Thanks  again.
